The grinding grooves inside the mortar are shaped by hand and then glazed, making it grinding smooth and the cleaning easier. The spout, called katakuchi in Japanese, makes it easy to pour the contents. The bottom of the mortar is covered with a silicone base to prevent slipping during use. You can use this mortar as a lovely serving dish for salads and side dishes.

This unique mortar is crafted by a family company specialising in mortars and rasps since 1925. Based in the Iwami region of Shimane Prefecture, Japan, it preserves the rustic Iwami-yaki pottery tradition. The raw material, Iwami clay, is renowned for its excellent durability.
