Japanese Peanuts: A Surprising Origin

Ironically, Japanese-style peanuts originated in Mexico, not Japan. Also known as maní japonés or cacahuates japoneses in Spanish, this snack was invented in 1945 by a Japanese immigrant living in Mexico named Yoshigei Nakatani. To this day, Yoshigei’s addictive peanut creation continues to grow in popularity throughout Mexico and the United States.
