MacTaggart Ancient Tartan. MacTaggart Ancient is a colourful blue-based tartan with shades of green and red. This name has an ecclesiastical origin and in Gaelic, meaning "son of the priest". Ferchar MacKinsagart, son of the Red Priest of Applecross, was knighted by King Alexander II in 1215 for his services in suppressing an uprise in the ancient Province of Moray. The name is found in many parts of Scotland, including Galloway and Argyll.
