Sugar Skull Beaded Apron - Vintage African

This is a traditional beaded apron from Southern Africa likely the Tsonga or Ndebele people.

This type of apron is worn by women and signifies their social and marital status. 

It is a ceremonial apron worn by married women. The five panels at the bottom (implied by the four large squares in the design) represent the children the woman is expected to bear, or "calves".
