Carbon dioxide (CO₂) is a colourless, odourless gas that naturally occurs in the Earth's atmosphere. It is produced through respiration in living organisms, the combustion of fossil fuels, and the decomposition of organic matter. It is most commonly measured in parts per million (ppm).The normal concentration of CO2 in outdoor air is approximately 400 to 420 ppm. However, such levels are rarely achieved indoors, making it essential to monitor CO2 levels in enclosed spaces. When CO₂ levels in the air increase, individuals may experience various physical and mental symptoms, which intensify as the concentration rises.  What is the recommended CO2 concentration indoors? A value of 400–1,000 ppm is the recommended indoor CO2 level. Above this level, one may experience fatigue, drowsiness and reduced concentration. At levels above 2,000 ppm, headaches, palpitations, confusion or dizziness may occur. (Very high concentrations of CO2 (15,000–40,000 ppm) are critical and lead to loss of consciousness and death.)
