Purdey The Damascus Red - Blue Poplar Knife

This limited edition version of our classic  damascus steel knife shape comes with a Blue Poplar handle which resembles the colour created by the case hardening treatment when applied to a shotgun.  It s finished with the Purdey mosaic pins and jimping on the blade spine and comes with a hand molded leather sheath.

Damascus steel is made when two types of steel are forged together and folded multiple times to form a desired pattern. It is then etched in an acid which eats away the surface of the steels with different properties at differing rates producing the pattern on the blade. The two steels used in the production of the Damascus Red blades are RWL-34™ and MC-27™, both of which are high end stainless powder metals, and combined offer the most stable and resistant form of Damascus steel. It has very high corrosion and wear resistance with excellent sharpness.  To ensure the Damascus performs to the highest possible standard, it is hardened, tempered and cryogenically treated in liquid nitrogen, to 59.5 HRC (Rockwell scale of hardness). It is by far the best Damascus steel in the world.
