Oliphant Ancient Tartan. Oliphant Ancient is a bright green-based tartan with a white overcheck. This surname is of Norman origin. The family held onto land in Northamptonshire long after the principal branch had removed to Scotland. David de Olifard, the progenitor of the House of Oliphant saved King David I during the siege of Winchester Castle. He received a small grant of lands in Roxburghshire.
