Montgomery Modern Tartan. Montgomery Modern is a purple-based tartan with red and green checks. Clan Montgomery arrived in Scotland in the 12th century as vassals of the FitzAlans. The surname derives from Wales and the earliest Scottish Clan member was Robert of Montgomery with the earliest possession of the clan in Scotland being in Renfrewshire.
