Modern Maxwell Medium Weight Tartan is a bright red-based tartan with shades of green.

The claimed origin from this surname is that it comes from a pool in the River Tweed named Maccus Well. The 5th Earl, Loyal to the House of Stewart was captured and sentenced to death. From his prison in the Tower of London, he was most courageously rescued by his wife, who, dressing him in woman’s clothes, remained behind while he made his escape.
