Lochcarron Of Scotland Caledonia Modern Lightweight Tartan Fabric

Caledonia Modern is colourful red and dark green based tartan with light blue, yellow and black overchecks. Woven using 100% Pure New Wool this tartan is available for made to measure products, accessories, soft furnishings and craft projects. Made here in our mill in Selkirk, Scotland.

It is possible that this was one of the Strome tartans favoured by the fashionable ladies of Edinburgh, who disapproved of the Act of Union and were anti-government and pro-Jacobite in their sympathies. As a sign of their feelings, they were known to have worn tartan plaids and silken scarves. Since it belongs to no clan, it is one of those setts which anyone not possessing a tartan of his or her own is entitled to wear. The age of this Strome tartan is unknown but it almost certainly existed at the beginning of the 18th century.
