A Beautiful Story was founded by Cathelijne Lania from the Netherlands in 2006. When she heard that a silver factory was closing down in her beloved Nepal (owned by a friend she had met whilst volunteering in Kathmandu) and inspired by her love of the country,  Cathelijne quit her job working for a big multi-national and set up a collaboration with the silver factory "artisan  workshops".  Cathelijne worked with her friend, Nimdiki Sherpa, to set up a jewellery factory "Beads for Life" - an enterprise to empower Nepalese women .  Fifty artisons from Beads for Life make the jewellery for A beautiful Story giving these talented jewellery makers the chance to be independent and to support their families.  Today the company also works with a small number of producers in developing countries and is establishing new connections in Peru, Bolivia and Bangladesh.A Beautiful Story jewellery is all fairly traded to the highest ethical standards and all sales mean that workers are kept in gainful employment.
