He reminded me of everything I was missing in a man. Tall and muscular, he wore some musky cologne I surreptitiously inhaled like an addict. How could any man smell that good at such an ungodly hour? I felt the heat from his large body and turned toward him. He smiled and I noticed how handsome he was. He sported dark hair, chiseled features, bright blue eyes, a dark blue shirt, and an expensive-looking watch on his right wrist.
I smiled back and then sipped my drink while I sneakily watched him as he ordered whiskey. When the bartender placed the drink in front of him, he took a large sip and sighed.
“Long day?” I inquired.
He smiled again and nodded.
“Do you want to talk about it?”
He eyed me curiously and then his eyes fell to my chest, which I hadn’t realized was more on display than I’d like. The tube bodice of my little black dress had slipped down a little too much and half my breasts were out on show. I was embarrassed but had to leave it where it was because if I adjusted myself, that would only draw more attention to my heavy chest.
He blushed and averted his eyes to mine and I hoped I didn’t look as embarrassed as he did. I tried to play it cool so the moment would blow over.
“So what happened today to have you drinking this late?” I asked breezily.
“I’m sure you have better things to do than listen to my sad story.”
“That’s better than me sitting alone thinking about my own.”
He arched one dark brow. “I’d much rather hear your story. I find it hard to believe you would ever have trouble finding company.”
I took a sip of my drink. I couldn’t tell him how boring my life really was and how lonely I felt when I wasn’t working. I was at the bar trying to escape from my problems, not drag someone else into them. I smiled coyly. “A woman needs to have a few secrets.”
