While gallivanting around Rome, I came upon a square of ruins sunk deep below the city. All around giant cypress trees shot up with an impressive breath. Ruins are remnants of the old empire; so too are these giant beauties baking in the Lazio sunlight. Cypress’s aroma is a dusky, enigmatic conifer that suggests a wizened age.
