This stylish charm shows the Luckenbooth heart which has been used since the 16th Century.
This item is part of the Luckenbooth collection. Originally the heart shaped luckenbooth was given, in the 16th century, at weddings and engagements as a token of love. From the 18th century onwards they were worn to protect against evil spirits. The name comes from the locking booths or small shops, a feature of Edinburghs Royal Mile.
This charm attaches to a charm bracelet with a small ring. The ring has a small slit in it so that it can be opened and closed. This means that the charm can easily be added to most link style charm bracelets or necklace chains.
