The Luckenbooth jewellery style is a truly Scottish trend originally designed and sold exclusively by Edinburgh jewellers as early as the 16th century. The name 'Luckenbooth' comes fromthe lockable booths (or 'luckenbooths' as they were referred to) found along the city's Royal Mile from which the jewellery was sold.
The Luckenbooth design is similar to the Irish Claddagh design incorporating both a heart to represent love and crown to represent loyalty. Because of its symbolism, Luckenbooth jewllery was, and still is, often given to a bride on her wedding day from her newly wedded husband. Traditionally, the gift would be a Luckenbooth brooch and the same brooch would also then be pinned to their baby's shawl to ward off evil spirits.
At Clan we offer a variety of Luckenbooth jewellery items for you and your loved ones to enjoy.
