Aran Cashmere Long Clan Sweater

The two native Gaelic surnames O’ Longáin and O Longaigh have both been anglicised to Long. It is likely that both names derive from the Gaelic word ‘long’ meaning ship, therefore seafarer. The name Long is most commonly associated nowadays with County Cork. The sweater has a central moss filled diamond panel. This is flanked on both sides by cable and link stitches. The diamond stitch represents a wish for wealth and the cable represents good luck. The link stitch symbolises the unbroken chain between the Irish who emigrate and those who remain at home.
